Course Description: This course focuses on the art of writing. You will write poetry and stories and discuss your writing with classmates in a workshop setting. By the end of the semester you will have written a collection of your work. This class will consider the relationship between “making” and “evaluating,” examining how writing literature informs our reading; and how developing an ability to understand new writing strategies can inform and enrich our writing. Often, we will focus on experimental methods for generating writing in a variety of forms. Our main task is to write poems and stories and discuss them in constructive and thought-provoking ways. We will read the work of contemporary poets and writers like LaTasha N. Nevada Diggs, interdisciplinary poet and sound artist, and Lily Hoang, writer and editor, using their work as a model for your own explorations.
